10-year-old girl and ‘area leader’ among 3 shot dead in Kingston

Three people including a 10-year-old girl are dead, and four others including a 12-year-old boy injured, following two separate gun attacks in volatile Central Kingston late Thursday.

The victims of the onslaught have been identified as 10-year-old Taysha Hughes and 26-year-old Richard Allen, who were both of Fleet Street addresses, and Nicholas Malcolm, otherwise call ‘Thick-a-Back’, of a Wildman Street address.

Reports were that about 10:00 pm, Malcolm, who was reputed to be an ‘area leader’ in the community, was among a group of people on Wildman Street, when a car was driven up with several men aboard.

The men reportedly got out of the vehicle and opened fire on Malcolm, who was hit several times, and died on the spot.

A 12-year-old boy was also shot in the incident.

A half hour later, while the police were processing the Wildman Street crime scene, gunfire rang out on Fleet Street in the Southside community.

Reports were that gunmen invaded the community and Richard Allen and little Taysha were among five persons who were shot in the process.

Police investigators believe the second attack was in reprisal for the killing of Malcolm.

The 12-year-old and the other three injured persons are in hospital.

Police are now in the area carrying out investigations and trying to reassure traumatised residents following the series of attacks.
