Transport operators threaten withdrawal of service

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Private transport operators say they will be withholding service islandwide starting tomorrow, Thursday, April 24.

At least six groups of operators spanning the island say they will hold a meeting in Kingston on Thursday to announce their decision “in defiance of the Transport Authority’s plans to prevent rural stage carriage operator from setting down and picking up at points in the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR).

Plans will also be announced for a national mass meeting of operators in Kingston on Sunday April 27, the groups said in a release Wednesday afternoon.
