Andrew Holness: ‘Go whip your children, Portia’

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Leader of the Opposition, Andrew Holness, says there is no chance of a “whipping” from Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and the People’s National Party (PNP) in the next general election.

“The prime minister can only whip her children,” Holness told TVJ’s Anthony Miller, who asked him to respond to Simpson Miller’s “I’ll defeat that guy message” in Annotto Bay last November, when she said: “I am sending a message to the guy… I am going to give you a thrashing, politically.”

Holness told the Press that recent polls done by the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) show that there has been a swing to the JLP.

“We are going to win,” Holness added.

However, he said that he was not in a position to say how many seats the JLP will win.

Holness was nominated at approximately 1.30 pm Monday, after leading hundreds of supporters on a march through the West Central St Andrew constituency and to the nomination centre.

This was nearly three hours after his opponent, the PNP’s Patrick Roberts, was nominated.
