Armed robbers pounce in downtown Kingston, outside ZOSO

Apparently undaunted by the increased security presence in downtown Kingston, gunmen on Wednesday reportedly committed at least two robberies in the commercial district.

Police from Kingston Central have confirmed that a medical student was held up and robbed at around 6pm along Beckford Street  as he made his way from the Kingston Public Hospital.

A senior officer from the station told Loop News that the student was robbed of an undetermined sum of cash.

Meanwhile, reports reaching Loop News are that, earlier Wednesday, armed men held up and robbed several vendors of goods and several items along Oxford Street, close to the Coronation Market, just metres away from where security forces have implemented the second Zone of Special Operation (ZOSO) in Denham Town.

“The men are lurking in section of downtown away from where the ZOSO is in place and we are calling on the authorities to look into this concern,” said one vendor, who asked not to be named.

Following news of the rrobberies, residents in communities located on the outskirts of the ZOSO are raising concern.

“Security in Denham Town but criminals are holding up people in nearby communities and we are calling on the authorities to also pay attention to these locations,” a vendor told Loop News.

The vendor asked not to be named out of fear of reprisal.
