Boyz suffer shock 2-1 defeat against Curacao in Caribbean Cup final

Jamaica failed to defend their Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup in Martinique as the Reggae Boyz were stunned 2-1 by Curacao in the final on Sunday.

The Reggae Boyz conceded an early goal in the 10th minute when Elson Hooi’s deflected shot beat goalkeeper Dwayne Miller.

Seven minutes later  the Reggae Boyz equalised through substitute Rosario Harriot, but Hooi scored his second goal in the 81st minute to guide Curacao to their first Caribbean Cup title.

The Reggae Boyz were searching for their seventh Caribbean Cup title.

Earlier, French Guiana won the third place playoff by defeating hosts Martinique 2-1.

All four teams will compete in the 12-team CONCACAF Gold Cup slated for July 7-26 in the USA and the Reggae Boyz will get another shot at Curacao.

The Jamaicans will play their first game in the  CONCACAF Gold Cup  on July 9 against Curacao.

The Reggae Boyz then play Mexico on July 13 and El Salvador on July 16 in their last group match.
