Chinese fined $15m for counterfeit goods

ST JAMES, Jamaica — A Chinese national was fined $15 million or eight months in prison at hard labour for the unlicensed use of trademark when he appeared in the St James Parish Court this morning.

The police reported that the man, Shifu Huang, was also warned by the presiding judge to desist from this illicit trading, which can result in him ending up in prison if he should return to the court.

According to the police, Huang was first arrested in December 2016 when a police team from the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime C-TOC executed a warrant and searched two premises where counterfeit shoes branded Nike, Adidas, Puma and Converse were reportedly seen displayed for sale along with other apparels.

The lawmen said he was again arrested for the same offence in April 2017.
