Cop under pressure in Kartel trial

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Corporal Shawn Brown a key witness in the Vybz Kartel murder trial was forced Monday to defend the integrity of his analysis of call and text data from telecoms company Digicel, entered as evidence.

Brown underwent a bout of intense grilling from defence attorneys Pierre Rogers and Tom Tavares-Finson on his last day on the stand in the trial that started in the Home Circuit Court last November.

Brown agreed to a suggestion from Rogers, who is representing accused Kahira Jones, that he had taken texts regarding the word ‘Lizzy’ out of context. He said too that his analysis of those texts was not detailed.

He agreed that he didn’t make detailed observation of questionable call data and that he never included at least two questionable calls into his analysis presented to the jury.

Still, he disagreed with a suggestion that his analysis was “unfair” and “incomplete”.

Texts were earlier presented to the court by Brown that made reference to ‘Lizzy’, giving the impression that the person being referred to was victim Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

However, the texts, from co-accused Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, turned out to be him speaking to his girlfriend about their daughter’s school fee and supplies.

Kartel (Adijah Palmer), Campbell, Jones, André St John and  Shane Williams are on trial for the alleged August 2011 killing of ‘Lizard’ Williams at Kartel’s Havendale, St Andrew house.
