Danville Walker convicted in scrap metal saga

Observer managing director and ATL executive Danville Walker has been convicted in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court in relation to a Contractor General probe into the scrap metal trade.

Walker was fined $5,000 or 14 days’ imprisonment.

Walker had been on trial on allegations he failed to comply in the required time with a request from the Office of the Contractor General and obstructing an investigation of the office into breaches by the Customs Department.

The OCG had launched an investigation into allegations that the Customs Department had allowed the export of scrap metal despite a ban on the industry at the time.

The shipment was made at the time when Walker headed the Customs Department.
