JUNIOR MURVIN OF “POLICE AND THIEVES” FAME WILL BE LAID TO REST, SUNDAY, DECEMBER 29!

THE funeral service for singer Murvin ‘Junior Murvin’ Smith takes place December 29 at the Christ Church in his native Portland.

According to Shikisha Chang Cowan of Glory Music, coordinators of the service, there will be tributes prior to the funeral at 2:00 pm.

“We are still confirming the persons who will be doing them,” she said.

Murvin, who made an international mark in 1976 with the hit song Police and Thieves, died on December 2 at the age of 64.

Produced by Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Police and Thieves was a massive hit in Britain where it appealed to the emerging punk movement.

Murvin’s son Kevin Smith told the Jamaica Observer that his father had suffered from diabetes and hypertension for a number of years.
