The People’s National Party (PNP) is highlighting what it calls improvements in the economy, education social services, healthcare and technology on the fourth anniversary of its December 2011 election win.
The PNP won 42 of the 63 seats in the December 29, 2011, ousting the Jamaica Labour Party from power.
According to PNP general secretary, Paul Burke, the administration has recorded achievements in housing and road infrastructure.
He has also cited achievements in energy through the provision of alternative sources, respect for Jamaica on the international scene and the provision of what the party calls high-scale employment for Jamaicans.
But the four-year tenure of the PNP has seen several clashes with civil society groups over governance issues.
There have also been a string of scandals including the dead babies issues which forced Simpson Miller to carryout a minor shuffle of her Cabinet.
The Opposition Jamaica Labour Party has also consistently criticised the government for the slow growth rate throughout the life a deal with the International Monetary Fund.
Meanwhile, Political analyst, Kevin O’Brien Chang says Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller’s leadership over the past four years has been a failure.
He notes that while some government ministers have performed well, Simpson Miller has been missing in action.
According to Chang, Simpson Miller has not engaged the public or taken tough decisions including firing non-performing Cabinet ministers.
