Soldier robbed, shot in Rae Town

A Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier was robbed and shot in the Rae Town area of East Kingston on Tuesday morning.

The soldier, a private, was hit in the chest, but has been hospitalised in a stable condition.

He was reportedly on his way to work a little after 5 am, when he was pounced upon by men who robbed him before shooting him.

The Eastern Kingston police are investigating the incident.

The Eastern Kingston Police Division, particular the Rockfort area, has been a hotbed of vicious criminal activities over recent weeks, with multiple deaths recorded from gang conflict there.

The situation has prompted a call from Phillip Paulwell, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, for a sustained security force presence in the constituency, to effectively combat rampant criminality there.
