Verlando Small continues to get bookings for major events after becoming the first instrumentalist to win this year’s Digicel Rising Stars competition.

Today, small will be the headline act performing for The Eastern Region of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), which is hosting its 2013 Culture Clubs Conference.

The conference is being held under the theme ‘Towards Jamaica Becoming the Cultural Mecca – Using the Three Super ‘Rs’: Revival, Rasta, Reggae’. The event is expected to attract more than 200 student delegates from some 30 culture clubs across the eastern region covering St Thomas, St Catherine, and Kingston and St Andrew.

There will be a keynote address to be delivered by Dr Jahlani Niaah, a lecturer in Rastafari studies at the University of the West Indies.

The conference is also to host a display. The Reggae Museum is to feature student delegates presenting their research papers with a view that their combined findings can form the basis of a policy document for the Ministry of Youth and Culture.

In addition to Small’s performance, the 2013 JCDC Festival of the Performing Arts gold medal winners are slated to give presentations.

Small is also the 2009 JCDC Instrumentalist of the Year.
