Sam Mitchell aka “Mitch” was born in the parish of Clarendon migrated at an early age to Kingston. He became a member of the Vineyard Town Police Youth Club.

He then joined Tropical Records and got his first start in the most exciting field there was in music. However, the life of Tropical was not long as it was destroyed by fire; he then moved to Federal Records and worked in all fields.

The task was given to him to seek and developed young artist. From that group came Hopeton Lewis and others. It was suggested by Mitch to use the popular Merritone name as a label. It was endorsed by Federal Records and Winston Blake. Most of the records became instant hits. Among the other artist were Judy Mowatt, Lloyd Parks, John Holt and Bob Andy.

The Federal era ended when he moved to Dynamic Sounds for a short while. When the foreign bug hit him like everyone else, he relocated to Brooklyn NY and opened his own record shop, where the name “Mitchies Records” became a household name. Yearning for a Corporate experience, he worked as a Supervisor for a major Financial Corporation for fourteen years. He then met and married Barbara Avis in June of 1987.
They recorded the late Phyllis Dillon, and currently have a few unreleased materials by her.

Tired of the cold in the Big Apple, Mitch moved his wife Barbara and son Richard in 1999 to the Sunshine State of Florida and The Gospel Trail was born in 2000.
