Already one mainstream rapper is on the bill for the 22nd staging of Reggae Sumfest, and now the Festival has enhanced the package with the addition of American hip-hop star Future.
Future, whose real name is Nayvadius Cash, will be joining the likes of rap heavy weight Wiz Khalifa at Reggae Sumfest 2014, scheduled to take place in Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, from July 13 to 19. The Epic Records artist is known for Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping singles such as Racks; Turn on the Lights; Magic featuring T.I.; Love Song with Rihanna; and Tony Montana, a collaboration with Drake and Rick Ross.
His most recent project is a long-awaited album titled Honest, released Tuesday, April 22 to very positive reviews from critics such as Simon Vozick-Levinson of Rolling Stone, who said, “When he raps, it’s in pulse-racing staccato bursts; when he sings, his auto-tuned vowels stretch and melt like alien dreams. Two years after his debut LP, Pluto, sent shock waves through mainstream rap, everyone else is still playing catch-up”.
FIRST APPEARANCE IN JA
Reggae Sumfest will mark the artist’s first appearance in Jamaica, performing for a world-wide audience at the International Reggae Festival known as the ‘Greatest Reggae Show on Earth’. The artist is billed for International Night II on Saturday, July 19.
The artist is also known for the strong connection he has with his fans, and always guarantees that they enjoy his performances. Godfrey Dyer, Chairman of Summerfest Productions, producers of the festival, expressed that he believes Future will add substantial value to not only the level of performances, but to the musical diversity of the show. “Every year we try to offer our fans the best that is out there musically. So far, the response to rapper Wiz Khalifa has been incredible, and I know fans will welcome the addition of Future. We expect Future to thrill the audience with a dynamic set”.
