NEW JOHN HOLT ALBUM FOR 2015!

John Holt and Sugar Minott—

THIS is the final in the Jamaica Observer’s daily Holt a Day series in tribute to singer John Holt who died on October 20 in London, England. His funeral is slated for the Holy Trinity Cathedral in downtown Kingston, today.

AN album, comprising songs done four years ago by John Holt, is scheduled to be released next summer by Tad’s International Record.

Tad Dawkins, head of that company, produced the album which was recorded at the Tuff Gong studios in Kingston.

Each of its 14 songs are originals. They were mainly written by Holt who was backed by an all-star cast including drummers Sly Dunbar and Style Scott, bassists Lloyd Parks and Errol ‘Flabba Holt’ Carter, keyboardists Robbie Lyn and Franklyn ‘Bubbler’ Waul, guitarists Winston ‘Bo Pee’ Bowen and Dwight Pinkney, saxophonist Dean Fraser, trombonist Nambo Robinson and trumpeter Chico Chin.

Singer Sugar Minott, who was strongly influenced by Holt, contributed backing vocals. Minott died in 2010.

Dawkins and Holt first worked together with Dennis Brown on the 1985 album, Wildfire, which included the hit song of the same name.
