“REBEL SALUTE 2015″ TO PAY HOMAGE TO JACOB MILLER, JANUARY 16-17!

Jacob Miller—

PROMOTERS of the annual Rebel Salute show will pay homage to influential roots singer Jacob Miller during its 2015 renewal which takes place January 16-17 at Richmond Estate, St Ann.

Chief organiser Tony Rebel told the Jamaica Observer that Inner Circle, the band Miller was lead singer of during the mid and late 1970s, will be a key part of the tribute. So too, Third World whose members were also closely associated with him.

Miller, one of the stars of the 1970s roots-reggae explosion, died in 1980 in an auto accident at age 27.

The Manchester-born vocalist started his career at Studio One in the late 1960s with the hit song, Love is a Message. He blossomed early in the next decade with a number of cutting-edge tracks for musician/producer Augustus Pablo including Keep on Knocking (an update of Love is a Message) and Each One Teach One.

But he really hit his stride with Inner Circle, led by the Lewis brothers, Ian and Roger. They had a golden run with hit songs like Tired fi Lick Weed in a Bush, Tenement Yard and Everything is Great.
