Recording artist Wayne Smith, who recorded the number one hit “Under Mi Sleng Teng” died today in Jamaica of a heart attack. Sleng Teng was the first fully computerized rhythm in Jamaican music.
The rhythm was created by the collaboration between King Jammy and Wayne Smith. Producer King Jammy says he’s saddened by Wayne’s passing.
Wayne Smith was born Ian Smith on December 5, 1965, and gained popularity for his single, which topped several Reggae charts around the world including the New York’s WNWK Top Ten. Wayne Smith was 48 years old.
