AUSTIN (KXAN) –
An Austin nonprofit needs some extra help after storms rolled through last weekend.
Reggae Fest was canceled after two days of rain last week, which had an unintended consequence. The Capital Area Food Bank said they lost out on a lot of donations.
They raised $170,000 during last year’s vent and most of it came through on Sunday. Officials estimate they lost about $100,000 this year.
“Every dollar raised at the food bank equals $6 worth of food, or three meals, and so every dollar counts,” said Joanna Linden, chief development officer for the food bank. “Obviously this is a huge hit, but every donation of a dollar goes a long way and makes a difference.”
About 36 percent of the profits from Reggae Fest go to the food bank.
