KINGSTON, Jamaica – At least one member of the Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO) recently had his vehicle seized because he detoured from the designated route, which was closed by the National Works Agency.
A release from JATOO Tuesday said the seizure was done illegally.
There are a number of road repairs within the KMTR, which necessitates detours off the designated routes, the release read.
“The Transport Authority have not announced any alternative route, therefore a reasonable driver would take an appropriate route to get to his intended destination,” the release also said.
“JATOO considers this seizure a gross violation of the operating licenses issued by the Transport Authority and is asking any member who has suffered this fate to report it to JATOO immediately, so that appropriate action can be taken against all the offenders,” the release said.
Meanwhile, JATOO is advising all PPV operators to be extremely careful when operating within the KMTR before and after the visit of US President Barack Obama to Jamaica beginning April 8, 2015.
