By-election 2017: Party supporters clash in Richmond, St Mary

ST MARY, Jamaica — Supporters from both Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People’s National Party (PNP) clashed a short while ago in Richmond, St Mary.

Richmond is reputed to be a marginal division in the South East St Mary constituency.

During the fracas two women from the opposing parties hurled expletives at each other and threatened to come to blows before the police intervened.

Members of the PNP were apparently upset, accusing the JLP of bringing supporters from St Catherine to slow up the voting process in Richmond.

“Why so many Spanish Town people out here?” the female PNP supporter angrily queried.
Apart from this incident the security forces have reported no violence in any of the divisions in South East St Mary.

PNP’s Shane Alexis and the JLP’s Norman Dunn  are in a heated  battle for the constituency, which has reported a 28 per cent voter turnout so far.
