Cop dies from motor vehicle mishap in St Andrew 

A police constable died as a result of injuries he sustained when he was reportedly hit by a motor vehicle while on his motorcycle at a stoplight along Weymouth Drive in St Andrew on Wednesday.

The deceased is Andrae Douglas, who was assigned to the Cedar Valley Police Station in St Thomas.

Reports are that about 3pm, Douglas was driving a Jamco motorcycle along the roadway when, upon reaching the stoplight, he was hit by a Toyota Hiace minibus that had allegedly ran the redlight.

Douglas sustained several injuries and was assisted to the hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

It is not clear whether the driver of the Toyota Hiace has been apprehended.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), on its social media pages, expressed condolences to Douglas’ family, friends and colleagues.
“Please keep his family, friends and (the) wider JCF in your prayers,” the force stated.

On social media, family members and friends were devastated by the news of the young policeman’s death.

“Boy cuz (cousin), you leave mi heart heavy. A wish a could say this not real,” a woman wrote on Instagram.

“Dis hurts like hell … one of the real ones ,” another woman commented.
