Digicel launches text line for Shaggy and Friends

DIGICEL, in partnership with the Shaggy Make A Difference Foundation, has established a donation line for the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

The text line, launched recently, allows persons to contribute $50 to the charity by sending a text message to, or calling 444-2498.

The Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation is the producer of the annual Shaggy and Friends benefit concert, which also raises well-needed money for the Bustamante Hospital, the only children’s hospital in Jamaica.

Reggae superstar Shaggy, the executive director of the Foundation, said the donation line will help people to be heroes in their own way.

“Every time someone sends a text or makes a call to the donation line, they are contributing to a life. This year is a very important one for us because it’s the anniversary of the Bustamante Hospital for Children, and all the proceeds from this donation line will go to the catheterization laboratory which Digicel is a partner,” he said.

“With the cardiac wing on schedule for completion in early 2014, the hospital needs all the help they can get to equip this wing. Digicel is, therefore, happy to be continuing to give back to the Bustamante Hospital for Children through this donation line in aid of these precious children,” said senior sponsorship manager, Tahnida Nunes.

Digicel’s commitment to the Bustamante Children’s Hospital was cemented earlier this year when the company donated $100 million towards the construction of the Caribbean’s first children’s cardiac wing, which will see 400 life-saving paediatric operations taking place each year.
