Veteran broadcaster Dorraine Samuels is now in recovery after undergoing surgery in recent days for an undisclosed medical condition.
Her employer, RJR/Gleaner Communications Group made the announcement in a statement on Thursday morning, following concerns raised on social media about her health.
“She continues to receive treatment,” the media conglomerate said, adding “We request the respect of privacy at this time and especially ask that the speculations and pronouncements in social media stop.”
Samuels is a former longstanding anchor of TVJ’s nightly news, a role she held up to January of this year. She has remained on radio with the RJR/Gleaner Communications Group, which she joined nearly 40 years ago.
