Convicted Jamaican drug lord Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke has been transferred to a medium security prison in South Carolina.

A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons this morning confirmed that Coke has been transferred to Edgefield Federal Correctional Centre, located near the border of South Carolina and Georgia.

He was previously housed at the federal detention centre in New York.

According to the Bureau of Prisons’ website, the projected release date for the former Tivoli Gardens strongman is July 4, 2030.

“Looks like he’s going to be with us for a while,” the spokesperson said.

Coke was given a 23-year prison sentence in a New York federal court last year after he pleaded guilty in 2011 to racketeering conspiracy and conspiracy to commit assault in aid of racketeering.

Some 73 persons were killed in Tivoli Gardens as gunmen loyal to Coke battled the security forces to prevent his arrest on an extradition warrant that was signed by Justice Minister Dorothy Lightbourne after mounting public pressure on the Bruce Golding administration.
