Hurricane Jose is now at Category 4 strength.
The National Hurricane Centr, in its 11 a.m update said Jose was an extremely dangerous category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph.
The NHC said at 1100 am, the eye of Jose was located near latitude 16.3 North, Longtitude 57.1 West.
A gradual turn toward the northwest with a decrease in forward speed is expected during the next 48 hours. On the forecast track, the centre of Jose will pass near or east of the northeastern Leeward Islands on Saturday.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for St. Thomas and St. John. Meanwhile, a Tropical Storm Watch for the British Virgin Islands and a Tropical Storm Warning for St. Martin and St. Barts.
The government of Sint Maarten has issued a Tropical Storm Warning as well.
