Magnitude 3.5 earthquake felt across Kingston and St Andrew

Aearthquake with a magnitude 3.5 was felt across some sections of Kingston and St Andrew on Tuesday.

The Earthquake Unit in Jamaica said the epi-centre of the quake was reported approximately 7km north of Golden Spring, St Andrew at around 9:30 am.

The unit described the quake as minor.

Minister of Local Government and Community Development Desmond McKenzie in August called on Jamaicans to be extremely cautious and be constantly prepared for natural disasters, especially earthquakes.

According to McKenzie, the increased frequency of earthquakes that have been felt in Jamaica over the last 10 months is alarming and should be cause for concern.

Since October 30 last year to around January of this year Jamaica has experienced over 577 felt earthquakes ranging from a magnitude of 3.4,” said McKenzie.
