Magnum fires on all cylinders

Patrons at the Magnum Live Concert on Saturday got more than their money’s worth. The dancehall/reggae show at Sabina Park saw spectacular performances from Masicka, Bounty Killer, Spice, Beenie Man, Popcaan and Capleton.

Mascika grows with each performance. The singjay maintained a commanding stage presence throughout his 20-minute set and had hardcore fans roaring to the lyrics of Dem A Go Dead, Pain And Sorrow, Everything We Want, Hardball and Win Now.

He invited Kranium on stage to perform their collaboration, Beach House, after which Kranium did Nobody Has To Know and Lifestyle.

Before Masicka’s performance, Jamiel delivered a well-received set.

Spice also had the throng eating from her palms. Starting with older hits like Fight Ova Man and Round The Rear, she paid tribute to her mentor Vybz Kartel which drew deafening ‘salutes’. She followed with So Mi Like It, Indicator, Needle Eye and Sidung Pon It.

Typically, her set was not restricted to music. The skimpily-clad deejay gyrated suggestively and showed off her acrobatic dance moves.

It was close to 2:00 am when Bounty Killer took the stage. He kicked off with Wutliss Bwoy, Sufferer, Living Dangerously and

Suspense then shared his views on current affairs such as domestic abuse. Next was Eagle And The Hawk, Can’t Believe Mi Eyes, Look Into My Eyes and Originality.

He also did songs with Iyara, Richie Stephens, Mascika and Agent Sasco.

Bounty made way for Beenie Man who was just as entertaining with Rum And Red Bull, Lets Go To The Beach and Blackboard.

Popcaan, however, was artiste of the night. The ‘Unruly Boss’ put everything into each track which included Dutty Dread, Never Fear Them, Wicked Man Ting, Dream and Give Thanks.

Capleton closed the show on a fiery note, with fans waving, jumping and dancing to his hit songs.

There were also entertaining performances from Clymax, Shensea and Accid.

The Observer caught up with Scott Dunn, organiser of Magnum Live. He said the show lived up to expectations.

“The production was amazing and everyone had a great time and we are really happy. We are looking towards the next staging which will be held during Dream Weekend later this year,” he said.
