National Commercial Bank (NCB) is warning the public not to fall victim to a fake artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video purportedly featuring one of its top executives promoting an investment opportunity.
The bank, in a statement on Instagram on Wednesday, flagged the video as a scam, and described the investment offer as not being legitimate.
“A fraudulent video purportedly featuring Michael Lee-Chin is circulating, falsely claiming that NCB and the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) are offering a lucrative investment opportunity. This is a SCAM and the video is AI-generated,” the statement said.
It added that, “This offer is not legitimate. Michael Lee-Chin, NCB and the Bank of Jamaica are NOT involved.”
NCB also urged individuals not to engage, click links, or send money to those behind the scam.
In recent times, a slew of AI-generated videos have emerged that cloned the bodies and voices of popular local personalities to promote fraudulent investment schemes.
The public have been warned to carefully scrutinise such videos in a bid to avoid becoming victims of the illicit schemes.
