Politician robbed of more than $1 million in Portmore

The Portmore police in St Catherine are investigating a case in which a politician was robbed of a large sum of money in the sunshine city a few days ago.

Reports are that the politician was traveling with the funds – said to be in the region of well over $1 million – and decided to leave the money in his vehicle while conducting business inside a complex.

Further reports are that the politician went to a plaza, parked the vehicle and went into a business establishment to conduct business.

On his return to the vehicle sometime after, he found a glass to the unit broken and the bag with the money that was inside the vehicle missing.

A report was made to police, who have since launched an investigation into the development.

Head of the St Catherine South police, Superintendent Clive Blair, confirmed the report, but did not provide any details on the incident.

The police, while carrying out the probe, have issued another warning to persons traveling around with large sums of money, to exercise greater levels of caution and, if needs be, seek the assistance of the police to assist them with safely transporting such funds.
