Popcaan for Councillor?

NEARLY a month after leading scores of St Thomas residents protesting deplorable road conditions, dancehall deejay Popcaan’s actions appear not to have gone unnoticed.

Yesterday, Member of Parliament for St Thomas Eastern Dr Fenton Ferguson said both have “joined forces” to lobby for “greater improvements” of the road infrastructure in the parish.

According to a release from the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP), the two met following the artiste’s August 31 peaceful protest in the parish.

The PNP said both agreed that the Southern Coastal Highway is important to the development of the parish, and that their united effort in lobbying the Government would ensure that this project becomes a reality to improve the lives of the people of the parish.

“Popcaan states that he wants the best for the parish of his birth and will work with the MP and other critical stakeholders to bring focus to the issues and to garner the necessary investments for parish,” said the PNP.

Meanwhile, the party, according to Ferguson, welcomes the concerns of Popcaan and the opportunity to join with “a personality that resonates with the youth to lobby for the upliftment of St Thomas”.

Popcaan — who hails from Bath — led placard-bearing residents and a convoy of vehicles through St Thomas’s eastern end, peacefully protesting the bad roads. The group made stops at major communities, including Bath, Dalvey, Golden Grove and Port Morant.

The dancehall act is known for tracks including Party Shot, Only Man She Want, and Clarkes, featuring Vybz Kartel.
