Karyn White—

AMERICAN R&B singer Karyn White said she is set for her Jamaican debut at Euphoria Charity Concert scheduled for the LIME Golf Academy in New Kingston on Sunday.

“This is my first time performing in Jamaica and I am looking forward to it. I’m really excited by the energy I’m feeling from the Jamaican people,” White told the Jamaica Observer.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Mustard Seed Communities charity. The event is promoted by dancehall artist Mr Vegas.

White, 49, said charity is something she holds dear to her heart.

“Anytime I can perform for this type of cause, it’s always special and rewarding because I get a chance to do what I love and give back to the people who need it most, our children,” she said.

One of Europhia’s headliners, White will share the stage with American R&B singer Pauli Carmen — lead singer of the 80s group Champaign, Mr Vegas, Freddie McGregor, Ernie Smith, Leroy Sibbles, Romain Virgo, Kevin Downswell and Christopher Martin.

During the late 1980s and mid-90s, White — a former beauty queen — rode high with a multitude of hits on several Billboard charts.

Her self-titled album, Karyn White (1988), was certified platinum for sales of over a million copies and scored three number one R&B chart singles The Way You Love Me, Love Saw It (featuring Babyface) and the smash hit Superwoman. Secret Rendezvous, another hit from the album, reached the top 10 on the R&B, Hot 100 and Dance charts.

Her most recent set is Carpe Diem which was released in 2012 on her own label, KW Enterprise.

Asked what she enjoyed most about performing, White said: “I love it. It’s where I am able to express my love for the arts and my appreciation for my audience.”

She recently performed in The Bahamas, The Netherlands and in England.
