Two more assault rifles found at Stadium East. Tally now at 8 guns

Two more high-powered guns have been found by the security forces in the ongoing operation at the Stadium East complex in St Andrew.

An AK-47 assault rifle and a M16 assault rifle were among five guns that were found on Monday, along with two magazines and sixty 5.56 cartridges.

Monday’s haul brought the total to eight guns, inclusive of six high-powered weapons, to have been uncovered by the security forces at the sports complex since the police/military operation got under way there on Sunday afternoon.

More details to come as they become available.

Having vowed to continue their search until every weapon hidden at the Stadium East complex in St Andrew is found, the security forces’ commitment yielded result Monday as three more guns and a “cache of ammunition” were found.

The operation, which began on Sunday, had already led to the seizure of three high-powered rifles, magazines and assorted rounds of ammunition.

On Monday, the total number of guns found at the location stood at six, as indicated by Deputy Commissioner Fitz Bailey, the officer in charge of the crime portfolio in the JCF, in a video update shared on the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF’s) social media platforms.

Speaking in a similar video shared on Sunday, DCP Bailey said the security forces will “pull back Jamaica from the hands of criminal elements”.

“People with firearms are not scared to fire… and I want to say, we are going to push back,” DCP Bailey said on Sunday.
