As was first reported by RJR Sports, West Indies coach Phil Simmons has been suspended by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) with immediate effect.

When RJR Sports contacted Simmons on Monday morning, it was confirmed that he received a letter from the board informing of their decision.

This comes two days after he complained of external interference in the selection of the West Indies one day team for the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka.

Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo were not selected in the team despite requests from Simmons and captain Jason Holder, along with the support of Clive Lloyd, who is chairman of the selection panel.

Pollard and Bravo were members of the West Indies team, which abandoned the tour of India last year over a pay dispute with its union, WIPA and the WICB.

As was previously reported by RJR Sports, Eldine Baptiste, who is a member of the selection panel, is set to take over on a temporary basis.

It’s understood that Simmons is contemplating legal action against the WICB.
