Woman charged for leaving 4-month-old baby in car while she partied

The police have confirmed that a woman who left her four-month-old baby in a locked motorcar that was parked on South Camp Road in downtown Kingston, to attend a party in the area on Saturday morning, has been charged for the offence.

Police said the woman – Joelle Clayton of a Sandhurst Crescent address in Kingston – has been slapped with a charge of child endangerment.

Reports are that about midday on Saturday, a team of police officers was on patrol close to Sabina Park, when they received a report that the child was left unsupervised in a vehicle.

The police said the officers made several checks to locate the parent or guardian of the child, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Police sources told Loop News that the officers had to break out one of the windows of the vehicle to remove the child from the unit to a medical facility for medical attention.

The vehicle was later towed from the area.

Reports are that the mother was later located and taken into police custody.

She is slated to appear in the Family Court on January 8, 2019.
