A 62-year-old St Andrew man was granted $200,000 bail in court on Friday on charges of grievous sexual assault and sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16.
David Mais appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court at Half-Way-Tree.
The allegations against him were that on May 29 of this year, he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old relative while she was tending a herd of goats in Mavis Bank, St Andrew.
Reports were that on the date of the incident, the girl’s mother checked on the child’s underwear and found what appeared to be semen. The child later admitted that she was sexually assaulted by Mais.
A report was made and he was arrested.
In court, Mais’s attorney, Peter Champagnie, asked that the accused be allowed to live with his sister in St Thomas, as there is concern that his life could be in danger if he returned to Mavis Bank.
The request was granted and Mais instructed to report to the Morant Bay Police Station on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.
He is scheduled to return to court on August 6.
