Several candidates in the February 25 general election who missed the deadline to provide information to the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) on their campaign spending have been spared from prosecution.
The EOJ had referred the names of ten delinquent candidates to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
In a statement the ODPP said it was informed by the EOJ on Thursday that Electoral Expenses Return forms had been received from all candidates whose names were submitted.
The Director of Legal Affairs at the Electoral Office stated that the documents were provided by April 26 and the EOJ is satisfied that despite the late submission the candidates have complied with the requirements of the Representation of the People Act.
The ODPP says based on the letter from the EOJ, which is the complainant in the matter, it considers the matter closed.
