Jamaica and Cuba will sign a memorandum of understanding for multi-destination tourism between the two countries on Friday.
A similar agreement will be signed with the Dominican Republic in June.
Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, made the announcement on Friday at the opening of the Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX) at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.
Bartlett told RJR News that Cuba is positioned to help fuel the growth of tourism in the Caribbean.
He said Jamaica is taking proactive steps to leverage its long-standing relationship with Cuba, to boost arrivals through the arrangement with that country and the Dominican Republic.
“Cuba which is our neighbour 90 miles away, will allow visitors to arrive there and then come to Jamaica. I believe that now that Cuba now better relations with the entire region, this will enable us to have greater connectivity.”
He said Jamaica is also in discussions with China and the aim is to concretise a tripartite agreement with China, Jamaica and Cuba.
Bartlett says this will help Jamaica tap into the Chinese market in a more meaningful way.
