Chinese woman pleads guilty to counterfeit footwear 

Lan Yan, a Chinese businesswoman of Orange Street in Kingston, who was arrested in 2015 as millions of dollars’ worth of counterfeit footwear was seized in an operation at her business place, has pleaded guilty.

Yan, 47, who appeared before the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Wednesday April 6, pleaded guilty to breaches of the Trademark Copyright Act, and will be sentenced on Wednesday, April 30.

The operation by the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) was a part of a series of simultaneous operations carried out in the Caribbean, South America and North America to clamp down on counterfeiting.

During the operation, several cases of fake Nike, Polo, Adidas, Puma, Vanz, Levi’s, Converse and Clarks shoes in excess of 30,000 pairs were seized.
