The police have pulled the plug on a two-day cultural event in Negril, Westmoreland which reportedly promoted the illegal use of ganja by patrons.
According to reports reaching RJR News, two Negril organisers applied for a permit to stage what was described as a music event. However, Assistant Superintendent Adrian Hamilton of the Negril Police says the decision was made to intervene after learning that the event, which was scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday, was being billed as a ganja festival.
He said abviously riding the high of the recent amendments to decriminalize small quantities of the use of ganja they promoted open sale and use of what is still an illegal substance. ASP Hamilton says the organisers have been informed of the withdrawal of the permit.
