Five members of a family were shot and injured on Ashoka Road in Waterhouse, St Andrew, by a gunman who kicked in the door to their house yesterday morning.
The attack occurred approximately 6:00 am. The gunman was said to have accused the three females and two males of stealing his $20,000 late Monday evening.
The man, who is said to be in his 30s, fled the community after the attack.
“The dispute resulted in the man departing the space and returning sometime after six o’clock this morning with a firearm, and he actually kicked off the door and shot and injured five occupants of the premises.
They were taken to hospital where they are being treated,” commanding officer for the St Andrew South Police Division Superintendent Gary Francis told the Observer.
The superintendent made an appeal for the man to turn himself in to the police.
When the Observer visited the community, furniture belonging to the man who is said to be responsible for the attack was seen on the road as police processed the scene.
Francis, who was offering words of comfort to residents, stressed that more emphasis needs to be placed on conflict resolution.
“This goes to the base of what we have been saying about the ability to manage conflicts without violence. If we are to really save the next generation there must be some emphasis, some investment placed on parenting, placed on the whole primary socialisation.
Go back to where children play games that they can have disagreement in a game and they work it out there and be able to go again,” he said.
