DC commits suicide after killing 62-y-o woman at police station

ST MARY, Jamaica — It has been reported that a district constable committed suicide after killing a woman at the Islington Police Station in St Mary this afternoon.

The woman has been identified as 62-year-old Dawnette Maxwell, of Galina, St Mary.

Reports reaching OBSERVER ONLINE are that the district constable, 25-year-old Toyan Ormsby, shot the woman before turning the gun on himself. The shooting took place about 1:40 pm.

It is unclear what led to the shooting.

The constabulary’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said the Chaplaincy Unit of the police force has been activated to offer grief counselling to all parties affected by the incident.

The Community Safety and Security Branch has also been directed to offer support, CCU said.
