FIB to probe Kartel payment

The Financial Investigations Branch (FIB) has been tasked with probing the USD$950,000 payment to Jamaican dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel (Adidja Palmer) by the promoters of the One Caribbean Music Festival.

This was confirmed yesterday afternoon by acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin while speaking to reporters at the Police Academy in St James.

Benjamin made it clear that while the TTPS has yet to receive any formal report from any concerned parties, they have initiated their own investigations to ensure that no regulations or laws were breached, following the publication of the sum allotted for the Jamaican entertainer.

“The TTPS has not received any formal report on the matter…Nevertheless, we continue to look at the matter, and based on that, I have already engaged the FIB to look into the matter, so we will look into it and will see what are the ramifications that come out of it,” Benjamin said.

The promoter said Kartel was paid USD$950,000 to appear as the main act in the May 31 concert at the Queen’s Park Savannah.

Kartel unfortunately, pulled out of the much-anticipated event, stating that the promoter had failed to pay completely the agreed fee of USD$1.3 million.
