Govt to pay workers $193b in 2017/18 

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government has allocated $193 billion to compensate its staff in the 2017/18 fiscal year.

Minister of Finance and the Public Service Audley Shaw said this adds up to about 48 per cent of the recurrent expenditure budget for central Government.

Shaw, who was addressing members of the Standing Finance Committee (SFC) at Gordon House today, said that the sum included $179.5 billion for wages and salaries, and $13.6 billion in outstanding contributions to statutory deductions and health insurance for the employees.

The SFC has been reviewing the 2017/18 budget figures until Friday.
