Jamaican arrested on possible drug smuggling charges

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (CMC) – United States law enforcement authorities say they have arrested a Jamaican national in connection with the attempted smuggling of 30 bales of marijuana with a street value of US$1.8 million.

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency said an American citizen was also arrested in the seizure of the 750 pounds of marijuana. Their names have not been disclosed.

The CBP said the US Coast Guard (USCG) said it intercepted a vessel Saturday following a high-speed chase and the drugs found.

“Custody of the two individuals on board, one US citizen, and one Jamaican national, the narcotics and the vessel were transferred over to Special Agents of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation and prosecution,” the CBP said.
