JLP councillor dies in car crash

Jamaica Labour Party councillor for the Homestead Division and minority leader in the St Catherine Municipal Corporation, Owen Palmer died in a motor vehicle accident on Sunday morning. Another man who was in his vehicle also died.

Palmer was reportedly returning from Old Harbour about 7am when, upon reaching Willowdene, the vehicle climbed an embankment and overturned.

Councillor for the Lauriston Division, Keisha Lewis confirmed the news when contacted by Loop Jamaica reporter Claude Mills.

“Based on what we are hearing, it is true,” a grief-stricken Lewis said.

Councillor Herbert Garriques of the Linstead division expressed shock at the news.

“Oh my God!” he said in a state of disbelief.

Meanwhile, there has already been an outpouring of tributes to Palmer on social media.

Loop Jamaica will have more details as the story breaks.
