More outages in St Catherine due to train derailment

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica Public Service (JPS) is advising the public that Saturday’s train derailment has significantly damaged its electrical back-up system, resulting in more communities being out of power supply.

The affected areas include: Bog Walk, Linstead, Ewarton, Redwood, Riversdale, Treadways, Troja, Harewood, Pear Tree Grove, Sligoville, Guys Hill and environs.

In a news release, the utility company shared that while the teams are working assiduously to have power restored to the affected areas, they are being hampered in some locations by rain and significant lightning and thunderstorm activity, which can create unsafe working conditions.

The company said it will continue to work to bring the remaining customers back on line. It said the repair of critical elements in the area will also aid in returning the back-up system to full functionality.
