Mountain View again on edge with another gang killing there

The police have increased their presence in sections of the Mountain View area in Kingston and St Andrew, where a man was shot dead during a raging gun battle between rival gangs on Friday.

Police said about 1:30 a.m., residents reported that heavy gunfire was heard in the area.

Law enforcers responded to the distress call and the body of a man was found in the Pleasant Heights area of the volatile community.

The name of the decease has not yet been released.

The police said since the killing, they have increased their presence in the area.

“There is now a strong police/military presence in the area to bring this recent upsurge of violence under control,” said Victor Hamilton, the Superintendent in charge of the East Kingston Police Division in which most of the Mountain View area is located.

The police said they are not yet clear about what has triggered the latest round of fighting among rival gangs in the area, but have sought to assure the residents that they will be putting in place measures to deter further attacks and possible reprisals.
