One man fatally shot, firearm seized in Riverton operation 

One man was fatally shot and a firearm seized during a police operation in Riverton, Kingston on Wednesday.

Reports are that about 7:50 pm members of the Metro Quick Response Unit were conducting a patrol in the Riverton area when they received information that men armed with guns were seen in the vicinity of the Six Miles bridge robbing people.

Reports are that the police team went to investigate and upon arrival at the bridge, they saw two men who opened gunfire at them.

The police said the fire was returned and one of the men fell to the ground and the other made his escape.

Police said one Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol was picked up from beside the injured man who was transported to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been ascertained.
