ERIE, Pennsylvania (CMC) – The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency says its agents have arrested an alleged Guyanese imposter with a criminal record who presented fraudulent documents to authorities.
On Wednesday, the CBP said that the unidentified Guyanese man had served time in a county jail in Pennsylvania on an outstanding warrant and that he had “convictions of multiple crimes”.
CBP said agents from the Erie Station were contacted by the Pennsylvania State Police on Monday to assist in identifying the suspect in their custody.
After initial database verifications, the document came back to a different subject and the suspect was arrested by Border Patrol agents following his release from Mercer County Jail from charges by the Pennsylvania State Police.
“Further processing revealed the suspect illegally entered the United States in 1995 with a fraudulent US Virgin Islands Identification Card and presented himself as a US citizen to immigration inspectors,” said a statement from the police.
“The suspect is currently in custody and will appear before an immigration judge to determine his eligibility to remain in the United States,” it said.
Due to his criminal convictions, the suspect could face removal and a permanent bar from entering the US in the future.
