Crime Stop is safe; No compromise to its network, says chairman

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Chairman of the National Crime Prevention Fund, Peter John Thwaites is urging the public to support the programme and report crime by calling 311.

“Crime Stop is safe,” Thwaites emphasised. “People can feel comfortable to report crime, as there has not been any compromise to the Crime Stop network, since its establishment 25 years ago.”

Thwaites gave the assurance during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving the Ministry of National Security, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), and the National Crime Prevention Fund, at the Ministry’s head office, in Kingston, on Monday, July 28, 28.

He indicated that the renewal of the MoU is testament of the commitment of the private sector in the fight against crime, particularly as it pertains to the recovery of illegal guns, ammunition and narcotics.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Major General Stewart Saunders, said that the Ministry is pleased to renew the two-year agreement which will see Government providing $2 million towards the payment of rewards.
